As far as I know Mazda has yet to combine the 2.5T and awd on any version of the 6.

I know, but a man can dream right? I got my hopes up and then cruelly squashed after I read this:

It would make sense that Mazda gives us a turbo’ed Mazda 6, its one of the few of its segment that doesn’t have an engine cranking more than 200hp...

Well yeah, the 6 2.5T is going to be available very soon, in fwd. So far the only 2.5T awd Mazda is the CX-9.

Well, they sell the AWD in Japan and Europe... it wouldn’t surprise me if it reached the US. Only if CAFE was preventing it, but I can’t see why.

There are awd 6 models outside the US but not with the 2.5T.

does the 2.5t use a different transmission from the N/As?
If mazda uses the same transmission and they AWD system looks like the haldex one, it shouldn’t be that difficult, and could use the refresh as an excuse to put AWD in.
In Europe the new Mazda 6 hasn’t been released, at least not on Spain’s or France’s website... but If I remember right you could get AWD with the 2.5... so they should be able to get AWD with the 2.5T once the refresh comes.

After 2 years Mazda will claim slow sales and cancel the model forcing all current owners to treat it like gold making your plan turn into 5-6 years after lease for a model that barley runs.

I don’t remember the source but I believe I saw somewhere that the awd system used with the 2.5T in the CX-9 is different from the one used in the 6 and there were packaging concerns about fitting it in the 6.

Let’s hope the 2.5T’s issue was solved before crash testing...

This is what I was thinking of. The implication being that the awd 6 might only be with the base engine.

Ah, the 6 wagon. I adore them. I wish they were sold here because I’d have totally bought one instead of the sedan I have.

“Gimme dat 2.5T AWD and I will buy this tomorrow...and by tomorrow I mean 3 years from now as a low-mileage CPO lease return ”
This is why we can’t have these things, no matter how many people on the internet want them, begging manufacturers for them, it won’t matter if you guys don’t buy them brand new.
Voting with your 60 - 84 month car payments is the only way we can have a say in the auto market.
Right now though, it’s fullsiz trucks and it’s small to mid-sized crossovers that’s winning new car sales wars.
